Today is a very exciting day! It is REVEAL day at the Linden Project, and there is a lot to show you. If you missed our update last week or our introduction to the project catch up HERE and HERE.
Long, long ago, the bedroom at the Linden Project looked very different. The wall color masked a lot of the natural light that filtered in, and the layout made the spacious room feel a lot smaller. Choosing a color that sets the tone can sometimes be challenging, especially before placing the furniture in the room, but I find that swatching several options helps. For this space, after a lot of samples, we picked Valspar’s Bay Waves Signature paint in eggshell. Love it!
Our design plan, of course, started with this fabulous bed. The color and the fabric make it luxurious and add a hint of glamour. I love the tall headboard and the contrast it has against the wall color. The bed is the only piece in the room that is bold, so to soften it, we chose fabrics that were subtle in color and pattern. We added white textured bedding, light grey curtains to the window, and a mix of pillows that stand out but do not overwhelm the bed.
One of the main problems in the room that we wanted to address in addition to making the space feel brighter was storage. The room has a large closet which had one long shelf and not much else. We wanted to take advantage of the tall ceilings to really maximize the closet space and provide Jessica and Kyle with as much storage as possible. We used the IKEA ELVARLI system and customized it by adding four drawers, two clothes rails, and a set of shelves that will allow them to store their shoes neatly. When I look for affordable options for storage, this system is always my first choice.
We also repurposed these awesome nightstands that we received as a donation earlier this year. They were initially a dark muddy brown color and had pretty basic knobs. We painted them in a bright white color, lined the drawers on the inside, and added these beauties to tie-in other elements in the room like the bedside lamps and the lucite floor lamp. These drawers are DEEP and offer even more storage.
Opposite the bed, we added the IKEA SKARSTA desk, which allows Jessica and Kyle to either sit or stand when working. The beautiful chair is from Wayfair, and the floating shelves are also from IKEA. Setting up a dedicated work station at home can be tricky, but when we realized that the bedroom would need to double as an office, we wanted to keep the lines clean and the materials bright.
We came a long way in this room in a very short time, and although we are considering this space DONE, we are so excited to embark on the next phase of this renovation journey. We still have to update the rest of the home, tackling the kitchen, the bathroom, and the multi-purpose living area. Read more about that HERE.
